Description:

Authentication has always been a major challenge in all types of systems. Verification of the authentic person is not an easy task, and also it consumes a lot of time and process. By using finger print scanner, it is very easy to verify. It is also very easy to verify the right person even online using finger print scanner and password-based access control system.

There will be a database for all the registered users for the users in the scanner. It will be done at the time of registration. The gate at the entrance will open only for the right person once the password and fingerprint matches the internal database. Hence, in security hall, only registered person can enter. The block diagram is shown below:

Component Description:

The key components for the project are

·        Finger Print Module

·        Microcontroller (At mega 168)

·        Relay Driver (ULN IC)

·        DC motor.

Input block:

Ø Optical fingerprint recognition module finger print reader R305

Finger Print Sensor (R305) -TTL UART is a finger print sensor module with TTL UART interface. The user can store the finger print data in the module and can configure it in 1:1 or 1: N mode for identifying the person. The finger print module can directly interface with 3v3 or 5v Microcontroller. A level converter (like MAX232) is required for interfacing with PC.

 Processing block:

§  Microcontroller block: Microcontroller takes the data from the control input. It will enable and disable the timer to calculate the time as per the control unit input. The microcontroller used in this project is ATMEGA168.

Output Section:

§  Display unit: It is 16*2 LCD that shows the time taken to reach from source to destination.

§  Motor Driver: IC ULN2803 will be used which can drive the relay proper voltage and current.

§  DC Motor: Automatic switch that will put on and off the devices.

Working

This kit password based security system is designed to secure an access control with two levels. One is password and the other is finger print. The interested user has to enter the password correctly, if it gets matched, then the finger print will be scanned. After these two verifications only, the gate will be opened. The initial database can be created for virtually unlimited users.

The finger print scanner is there to scan the finger print and store the database inside it. The microcontroller can ask it anytime to check the validity of the preset finger placed on it. If the user is valid then only the microcontroller opens and closes the gate. The gate is controlled with the help of a dc motor driver which driver the motorized gate.

The kit password based security system can be powered up with 12V 1A ac or dc power supply. The rectifying and filtering circuit is embedded in the system. The communication link between the fingerprint scanner and the microcontroller is the UART communication. The system can be further upgraded and hence can be connected with the system where there can be a large database.
